Poetic Encounters 2012: Syrinx

For the 6th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Polish film makers Maciek Majewski, Łukasz Twarkowski and Wiola Sowa have collaborated with German poets Norbert Hummelt, Nico Bleutge and Christian Filips to make film versions of poems of theirs. Together they chose the poems and worked on turning them into scripts. In the run-up to the festival the pairs of artists were meeting up in Berlin to turn their ideas into films within six days. The short films that have been created in this way were premièred in the fesival. This ist Maciek Majewski film-version of Norbert Hummelts poem „Syrinx“.

The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival has been around since 2002. It was the first and is the largest international platform for short films based on poetry – the poetry films. Every year, it offers poets, film and festival makers from all over the world a platform for creative exchange, brainstorming and meeting with a broad audience. With a competition, film programmes, poetry readings, retrospectives, exhibitions, performances, workshops, colloquia, lectures and a children’s program, it presents in various sections the diversity of the genre of poetry film.

Poetic Encounters 2013: firewater

In the poetry-and-film workshop Poetic Encounters artists from two genres and two countries come together. Berlin filmmakers Matthias Fritsch, Juliane Henrich and Axel Krüger have selected the Polish poets Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało, Jakobe Mansztajn and in advance to work with them on making filmed versions of their poems. Filming work then took place in Warsaw. The films received their premiere at the poesiefestival Berlin 2013.
